GiG kicks off the YGAM collaboration with a cross-industry workshop

21 February, 2020

Collaborating with charities which focus on the prevention and educational aspects of gambling-related harm, is one of GiG’s safer gambling core focus areas. We have partnered with YGAM, a charity which has a social purpose to inform, educate, safeguard and build digital resilience amongst young and vulnerable people; and BetKnowMore, a gambling support service, with a mission to provide support and education services to address problematic issues caused by gambling.

GiG has entered into a longer-term collaboration with YGAM to support both them and our employees to share knowledge on topics such as prevention of gambling related harm and to continually increase our understanding potential adverse consequences of gambling and gaming. At GiG, we have a dedicated team working actively with YGAM to achieve these goals.

The collaboration kicked off with YGAM providing a cross-industry workshop at the GiG offices to pilot and evaluate their Understanding Safer Gambling workshop, accredited by the City and Guilds of London Institute. Lee Willows, Anne Evans and Keith Evans, founders of YGAM; and Frankie Graham, founder of BetKnowmore, shared their experience on how gambling-related harm affected their lives and how it continued to be a catalyst for their work today: working together with the industry to prevent gambling-related harm. The full training day, which was attended by different industry operators, focused on the importance of identifying and successfully interacting with end users to minimise risk and harm.

Furthermore, GiG will support YGAM’s roll-out of educational programmes in Malta, an initiative supported by the Malta Gaming Authority. We look forward to continuing the collaboration with YGAM, contributing to making online gambling safe and fun for all.
