Reports directly to the President with primary operations responsibility for all curricula, instructional and programmatic aspects of the college’s academic and continuing education programs, academic support programs and initiatives; provides leadership in the development of policy, procedure, programs and systems in support of academic programs and initiatives; provides executive leadership (including assessment/accreditation review) in academic program selection, the development of academic articulation agreements, current and emerging instructional delivery systems, and on-going community workforce training needs; in collaboration with the Vice President, Student Affairs & Branch Campus Management, responsible for the implementation of institutionally supported student success strategies; works in partnership with the Vice President, Student Affairs & Branch Campus Management, in developing a collaborative working relationship between faculty and Student Affairs staff in implementing student success strategies targeting at risk students; provides leadership to academic support services (tutoring, learning assistance center, assistive technology, skills labs, library services); provides institutional leadership across all academic disciplines and organizational units in support of academic offerings and emerging student success initiatives; co- chairs the institutional effectiveness committee with the Dean of Planning, Research and Facilities; assists in the identification of grant and other external resources to advance the academic programs of the college; provides direction and oversight in the development of partnership programs between the college, local high schools, academic/technical advisory boards, select community-based organizations, area social service agencies, and other institutions of higher learning, both two-year and four-year public/private in areas such as dual enrollment, continuing education, and career and transfer pathways ; provides oversight to the coordination with student affairs and enrollment management regarding articulation agreements with four-year colleges; collaborates in the development of initiatives that foster readiness for future college students at the middle and high school levels; models and implements effective management strategies with academic affairs employees in such areas as on-going professional development, mentoring and customer service awareness, conflict management and consensus building; develops, implements and monitors a complex division budget in concert with the strategic plan and with other members of the president’s senior staff; provides guidance, direction and leadership to faculty in the implementation and sustainability of the learning outcome assessment cycle; utilizes data analysis as the basis for strategic decision making; provides leadership in the identification and recommendation of new and emerging technologies as well as relevant applications of present MIS system in support of academic student success (e.g., WebAdvisor.) and instructional effectiveness; leads in the development of a climate that promotes and supports innovation and improved services to students and the community; ensures all departments act in compliance with FERPA, Title IX, Title IV, Clery Act, Americans with Disabilities Act and other federal and state regulations; serves as an internal resource to members of the college on matters related to academic affairs; serves in an active and visible leadership role with the New Jersey sector-wide academic officers’ affinity group and within the external community college leadership community.
Minimum Requirements:
Earned Doctorate in Higher Education Leadership, Higher Education Administration, Adult Learning or related field. Five years of progressively responsible leadership in Academic Affairs in higher education, preferably in a community college setting, with three years of supervisory experience. Proven leadership experience in advancing student success initiatives such as Achieving the Dream. Demonstrated ability to engage staff to build on past successes while fostering change. Demonstrated commitment to continuous and synergistic improvement of instruction, instructional support and faculty development. Knowledge of theories of student learning as they relate to the adult learner and understanding organizational systems and their contribution to student academic success. Demonstrated ability to develop measurable outcomes and assessments strategies to formulate data-driven decisions. Knowledge of public sector/higher education federal and state regulations and compliance. Demonstrated experience in planning and monitoring budgets. Demonstrated ability to work effectively with diverse internal and external populations. Strong organization and leadership skills with a demonstrated ability to build consensus in a service-oriented environment.
Note: Note: This position may require flexible scheduling to include evenings and weekends and duties at any Atlantic Cape location.
