  • Troutman Sanders got 720 acres of an abandoned industrial site approved for development into prime real estate for development of a master planned residential community. The former Durango Mill property ranks as the state's largest Brownfield site. North River's plans for remediation and redevelopment of the property as a mixed-use planned residential community are underway.
  • Troutman Sanders represented Bowater Incorporated in a $ 8 billion merger with Abitibi-Consolidated Inc. The transaction will create a new company with an enterprise value in excess of $8 billion that will be the third largest publicly traded producer of paper and forestry products in North America, and the eighth largest worldwide.
  • Troutman Sanders represented airline in the purchase, financing and maintenance-contract aspects of its $7+ billion (at list prices) purchase order for new Boeing 747-8 cargo aircraft with Boeing, GE (the engine manufacturer) and others.

Summer associate program

During each school year, Troutman Sanders hires a select group of law students to participate in its summer associate program. A number of the students who participate in the firm's summer program have completed their second year of law school.

The Firm relies on the summer associate program to satisfy most of its entry-level hiring needs and looks for long-term commitment in the associate.

The firm's summer program is highly regarded primarily because it aims to provide its summer associates with a realistic view of practicing law at Troutman Sanders and to help them bridge the gap between academia and practice. Moreover, the associated are assigned work on real projects with real clients.

Associates are thrust into the real world, meeting clients, attending strategy sessions and closings. Associates draft documents, write briefs and help prepare for trials. Even though workload in the firms summer associate program can be intense and fast paced, it is a great learning experience that gives them an idea of what it is like to work at Troutman Sanders.

Summer Associates are also treated to a host of social activities that enable them to know each other better in informal, spontaneous events.

An overwhelming majority of the firm's summer associates are given offers to return to the Firm for full-time employment. The Hiring Committee asks each departing summer associate to indicate those practice groups in which he or she would like to work as a full-time Troutman Sanders associate.
